WriteProper is a short course that tackles the most common problems and errors in written English. It focuses on Usage, Grammar and Style. It can be as short as a single morning or afternoon session, or it can be expanded to cover six one-hour evening classes, depending on your requirements.
Usage is where most problems arise. The English language is constantly evolving and changing. Words change their meanings. It is easy to get confused and make mistakes: everyone does. This first part identifies the most common errors and confusions and shows how to avoid them: when to put the apostrophe in its; the difference between imply and infer and between less and fewer – and so on.
Grammar, on the other hand, is remarkably stable. It is simply the set of rules that enables us to understand each other. You don’t need to know advanced grammar – just the basics as provided here – but an understanding of these basics is a huge help if you want to avoid all the earlier errors and confusions.
Style is the art of persuasion. It’s the way you tell ’em. There are tricks to every trade and writing is no exception. This last section explains the mysteries of syntax, punctuation and the other elements of good, clear writing.
So – what’s it all about? It’s all about effective communication.
THE COURSE IS SUPPORTED BY POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS WHICH ARE THEN EMAILED TO ALL PARTICIPANTS AS AN AIDE MÉMOIRE
