In 2013, I attended a course in grammar and usage run by Fergal Tobin in the Publishing Ireland offices in Dublin. Even though I am an experienced editor, I found the course to be very useful, and learned some new things I didn't even know I was missing! I have no hesitation in recommending Fergal as an excellent, engaging teacher with a firm grasp on the many complex rules of grammar and fascinating details on the common pitfalls encountered by so many people when working with words.
Fergal Tobin has provided Magazines Ireland with bespoke training courses for its members. We had excellent feedback from the delegates for the sub-editing workshop he ran for editors and journalists based on the WriteProper presentation. The course was attended by journalists and editors from some of Ireland's leading magazines who found it useful and it was pitched perfectly to the audience. Fergal is a lively and interesting tutor.
An excellent, short, practical course in written English. Every member of our team learned something new and valuable -- and it was fun.
We received lots of positive feedback from the group. Fergal's expertise and credibility in this area are undoubted; it was such an interesting session and he answered a whole range of queries for me personally.
Publishing Ireland has engaged Fergal's services on many occasions and we have found him to be excellent. Not only is he an expert in his field but has a clear and genuine love of the English language, its correct usage and how best to use it in a professional editorial setting. Attendees of the course found him to be a pleasure to listen to and his course extremely useful in their work. Here are just some of the comments given from his course in 2015: "Great mixture of detail and overview" "Exceptional as always" "Superb" "Knowledgeable, clear and entertaining". I would highly recommend editors, freelancers, publishers and indeed anyone who wishes to brush up on their practical skills in written English to check out WriteProper.
